60+ 1st XI CUP FINAL

Played at Oxford Downs CC on Tuesday 3rd September

Lancashire skipper Glenn Bullock won the toss and had little hesitation in opting to bat on a good looking wicket with a fast (if rather large) outfield. He and Steve Tickle began briskly and put on 83 for the first wicket before the latter became the first of three victims for Anthony Scott. Glenn was joined by John Punchard and the pair shared a 51 run stand before John was caught off the bowling of Richard Newport. During this partnership the Somerset captain, Paul Ashton, suffered a horrific open fracture of his finger whilst fielding and could play no further part in the match.
Glenn and Chris Dearden accelerated the scoring rate and added 97 together before Glenn was finally dismissed for an outstanding 131. Chris followed shortly afterwards for 43 and it was left to Dave Bartholomew and Ian Caunce to take the Lancashire total to 273-4 from their 45 overs.

Somerset needed a solid base but suffered the worst possible start when Billy Smith took the wicket of David Stephenson in the first over. Andrew Ashfold and Graham Poulton soon departed for single figure scores and, when Billy claimed his third victim, Somerset were tottering at 43-4. Iain Locke and Anthony Scott offered some resistance but the introduction of Chris Dearden, who took 3 for 5 in his four overs, swiftly bought the match to its conclusion with Somerset dismissed for 128 in the 36th over.

Thanks go to Oxford Downs for their excellent facilities and catering and to umpires David Beck and Ian Royal.

Lancashire 273-4 (Glenn Bullock 131, Chris Dearden 43, Anthony Scott 3-45)
Somerset 128 (Anthony Scott 32, Chris Dearden 3-5, Billy Smith 3-31)

Lancashire won by 145 runs

60+ 1st XI National Vase Final

Kent v Suffolk at Loughton CC

Having won the toss, it was a stonewall certainty that the Kent captain would opt to bat on such a hot day. The Suffolk fielders were soon suffering from the weight of runs being accumulated as much as the heat from the sun. Chris Swadkin (70) and Chris Trevatt (114) had put on 145 before Swadkin had to retire due to sickness. The only hindrance to their partnership was a miserly opening spell of 0-16 from 6 overs by Kevin Ross.  The wicket of Trevatt, 3rd out with the score on 236, failed to stop the flow of runs as Jim Phillips 74 not out off 55 balls faced heaped more misery on the tiring fielders. At tea, Kent had amassed 322-5.
Any hopes of Suffolk chasing down the Kent total were severely dashed following Dave Crompton’s (captured in action below) opening 9 over spell. His 4-7 took out the top order starting with the Suffolk captain, Colin Walters in the 5th over thus leaving Suffolk struggling on 35-4. Opener, Simon Halliday (21) desperately sought a partner to repair the innings but his dismissal at 54-5 dashed any hopes. The end for Suffolk came in the 41st over with just 85 runs on the scoreboard with the final two wickets falling to man of the match Chris Trevatt (captured in action below)

2019 Phase 2

The Cup will involve the top 2 teams from each of the 6 Groups split into 2 Regional Groups. The winners of each group will contest the Cup Final on 3rd September at Oxford Downs CC.

The Vase will also involve 12 teams in total split into 2 Regional Groups. All the 3rd and 4th placed teams from the 6 Regional Groups. The winners of each group will contest the Vase Final on 27th August (TBC)

The remaining 8 teams will contest the Bowl Competition. There will be 2 Regional Groups of 4 teams with the group winners contesting the Bowl Final on August 20th.

The seedings within the groups in all competitions will be based on average points attained in the Regional Groups.

Where counties are level on points overall positions in the Group Tables will be determined as follows :

(1) Individual results between the two equal Counties with the County gaining the most points from their two matches being placed first.
(2) If still equal, then : The County with the highest number of outright wins
(3) If still equal, then : The best run rate of the two Counties, based on overs that have been completed
(4) If still equal, then : The toss of a coin by the Competition Organiser

Officials

For the Cup Final a ground and Independent umpires will be arranged by the competition organiser..

For all other matches Counties will be expected to provide suitable home grounds where necessary.
Each County shall provide an umpire and scorer for each fixture except where mutually agreeable arrangements are made between the teams.
